In general the non-destructive tests along with the other applied tests represent the most important elements of quality assurance. The EN 10228-1 to -4 series of standards summarizes the following non-destructive tests for forgings: Magnetic particle inspection - Part 1; Penetrant testing - Part 2; Ultrasonic testing of ferritic or martensitic steel forgings - Part 3; Ultrasonic testing of austenitic and austenitic-ferritic stainless steel forgings - Part 4. This part of EN 10228 describes techniques and acceptance criteria to be used in the penetrant testing of steel forgings. DIN Standards Committee Iron and Steel (FES), Working Committee NA 021-00-10 AA "Schmiedestücke" ("Forgings") is responsible for this series of standards.
