In general, non-destructive tests together with other applied test methods represent the most important elements of quality assurance. The EN 10228-1 to -4 series of standards summarizes the following non-destructive tests for forgings: Magnetic particle inspection - Part 1; Penetrant testing - Part 2; Ultrasonic testing of ferritic or martensitic steel forgings - Part 3; Ultrasonic testing of austenitic and austenitic-ferritic stainless steel forgings - Part 4. This part of EN 10228 specifies the methodology for manual, pulse-echo, ultrasonic testing of forgings made of ferritic or martensitic steel. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 021-00-10 AA "Schmiedestücke" ("Forgings") at DIN Standards Committee Iron and Steel (FES).
This document replaces DIN EN 10228-3:1998-07 .
