The DIN EN 12201 standard series is the German version of the EN 12201 standard series. It specifies the general requirements for piping systems made of polyethylene (PE) intended to be used in buried and above ground piping systems intended for human consumption, including the conveyance of raw water for treatment, drainage and sewerage under pressure, vacuum sewer systems and transport of wastewater. They apply to pipes, fittings and valves made from PE, their joints and to joints with pipeline components from other materials intended to be used at a maximum operating pressure, MOP, up to and including 25 bar and an operating temperature of 20 °C as reference temperature. They also cover a range of maximum operating pressures and specify requirements concerning colours of components and the use of additives. The fourth part deals in particular with fittings. The standard series is directed at manufacturers, test facilities and users of polyethylene (PE) piping systems. It has the nature of a delivery standard and contains in particular aspects of quality and product safety. These standards are revisions of the standards published in 2012. The European Standards have been prepared by CEN/TC 155/WG 32 "Valves", the secretariat of which is held by UNI (Italy). The German committee responsible for DIN EN 12201-4 is DIN Working Committee NA 054-05-03 AA "Fittings für Druckrohre aus Thermoplasten" ("Fittings for pressure pipelines made of thermoplastic materials") at DIN Standards Committee Plastics (FNK).
