DIN EN 12942 specifies minimum requirements for powered respiratory protective devices incorporating full face masks, half masks or quarter masks and gas, particle, or combination filters. It does not apply to devices intended for use in situations where there is a risk of oxygen deficiency (oxygen concentration less than 17 % by volume). Escape devices (respiratory protective devices for escape purposes) are not covered by this document. Laboratory tests and practical performance tests are included to verify compliance with the requirements. In the course of the revision, an optional mechanical vibration test has been added for devices subject to high mechanical stress. Furthermore, warning devices for battery alarm, insufficient power supply, and filter saturation (insufficient volume flow) have been introduced. The draft standard is intended for manufacturers, testing institutes, and all users of respiratory protective devices. It deals in particular with aspects of occupational safety and (product) safety. The draft standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 79 "Respiratory protective devices". The responsible national committee is Working Committee NA 027-02-04 AA "Atemgeräte für Arbeit und Rettung" ("Occupational respiratory protective devices") at NAFuO.
This document replaces DIN EN 12942:2009-02 .
