Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard specifies load actions to be used together with the standard EN 13001-1 and EN 13001-3, and as such they specify conditions and requirements on design to prevent mechanical hazards of cranes, and provide a method of verification of those requirements. Specific requirements for particular types of crane are given in the appropriate European Standard for the particular crane type. The following is a list of significant hazardous situations and hazardous events that could result in risks to persons during normal use (of the crane) and foreseeable misuse. Clause 4 of this standard is necessary to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with the following hazards: a) instability of the crane or its parts (tilting); b) exceeding the limits of strength (yield, ultimate, fatigue); c) elastic instability of the crane or its parts (buckling, bulging); d) exceeding temperature limits of material or components; e) exceeding the deformation limits. This European Standard is applicable to cranes that are manufactured after the date of publication of this standard as a European Standard. This European Standard contains the German version of EN 13001-2:2014 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 147 "Cranes - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). It should be noted that the term "crane" as in this standard includes all machines for cyclic lifting, or cyclic lifting and handling, of loads suspended on hooks or other load lifting attachments. This means that this standard applies to all other equipment, such as winches, which meets this definition. This standard differs from DIN EN 13001-2:2012-06 as follows: a) 4.2.2.2, 4.2.3.4, 4.2.4.10, 4.3.2, 4.3.4 and 4.3.7 have been modified; b) 4.2.4.7, 4.2.4.8, Annex B, Annex C and Annex D have been revised. The national interests during the preparation of the standard were represented by the committee NA 060-22-10 AA "Lenkungsausschuss Krane und Hebezeuge" ("Steering committee cranes and lifting equipment") and NA 060-22-10-21 AK "Konstruktion - Allgemein" ("Design - General") at Technical Section "Krane und Hebezeuge" ("Cranes and lifting equipment") of the Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the manufacturers and users of cranes and lifting equipment as well as of professional and trade associations are involved in the preparation of this standard.
