This European Standard specifies the magnetic particle testing method for ferro-magnetic iron and steel castings. It also gives acceptance criteria through severity levels defined by the nature, the area and the dimensions of the discontinuities present. This European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 190 "Foundry technology", the secretariat of which is held by DIN (Germany). Regarding the German collaboration, the responsible Working Committee is NA 036-00-03 AA "Prüfverfahren für Gusswerkstoffe" ("Test methods for cast materials") at the Foundry Practice Standards Committee (GINA).
