Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard deals with the special technical safety requirements for liquid pumps and pump units operating with agrifood-stuff. This standard is intended to be used with EN 809 to give the additional requirements for hazards arising from the pumping of substances intended for human and domestic animal consumption. It also establishes requirements and/or measures for the reduction of risks during use, including misuse foreseeable by the manufacturer. When the standard was prepared, it was assumed that pumps falling into the scope of this draft comply with all significant requirements of EN 809. This standard is not intended to be used for pumps and pump units at any stage in the public water supply, nor for pumps handling pharmaceutical products, nor for any other application for which more appropriate standards exist. The pumps and pump units covered by the scope of this standard are the following: - rotodynamic pumps; - rotary positive displacement pumps; - reciprocating positive displacement pumps Pumps dealing with agrifood-stuff which are not indicated in this scope are potentially covered by EN 1672-2:2005+A1:2009. This document is not applicable to liquid pumps for agrifoodstuff applications which are manufactured before the date of its publication as a European Standard. This document contains the German version of EN 13951:2012, which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 197 "Pumps" at the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 13951:2010-02 as follows: a) editorial revisions; b) revision of normative references; c) adaptation of the clause numbering; d) addition of Annex ZA (informative) on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC. The national interests during the preparation are represented by NA 060-11-01 AA "Kreiselpumpen" ("Centrifugal pumps") of Technical Section "Pumpen" ("Pumps") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the manufacturers and users of pumps, and of the employers' liability insurance associations are involved in the preparation.
