DIN EN 13979-1:2024-04

This document (EN 13979-1:2022) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 256 "Railway applications", the secretariat of which is held by DIN (Germany). The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 087-00-02-01 UA "Radsätze" ("Wheelsets"). This document shall supersede EN 13979-1:2020. This revision adds a new link to the pre-designing state of the art methods defined by UIC (thermo-mechanical calculation) and provides several recommendations for the rim geometrical design in order to ensure sufficient material to withstand thermal loading. The definition of the wheel approval scope has been clarified, and a new definition of the approval process for a wheel design derived from a previously approved one has been added. In addition, the recommended combined reference roughness spectrum of the different types of braking systems for the acoustical assessment has been corrected.
