Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard, together with part 1, deals with all significant hazards for mobile drill rigs for civil and geotechnical engineering, quarrying and mining when they are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer associated with the whole life time of the machine (see Clause 4). The requirements of this part are complementary to the common requirements formulated in EN 16228-1:2014. This document does not repeat the requirements of EN 16228-1, but adds or replaces the requirements for the application of mobile drill rigs. In this document, the general term "mobile drill rig" covers several different types of machines for use in: - civil engineering; - geotechnical engineering (including ground investigation, anchoring, soil nailing, mini-piling, ground stabilization, grouting); - water well drilling; - geothermal installations; - landfill drilling; - underpinning, tunnelling, mining and quarrying; - for use above ground as well as underground. Typically, the process of drilling involves the addition of drill rods, tubes, casings or augers etcetera, usually threaded, as the borehole extends with depth. For machines with a torque greater than 35 kNm, see EN 16228-4 first. The term "drill rigs" includes rigs with a separate power pack supplied by the rig manufacturer. This standard contains the German version of EN 16228-2:2014 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 151 "Construction equipment and building material machines - Safety" of the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 791:2010-01 and DIN EN 996:2010-02: a) the EN 16228 standard series, Parts 1 to 7, has a completely new approach and replaces the previous standards EN 996 and EN 815 specifying piling and drilling equipment; b) the new EN 16228 standard series specifies drilling and foundation equipment for specific application techniques. The national interests during the preparation have been represented by NA 060-13-03 AA "Bohrgeräte" ("Drilling equipment") of the Section "Bau- und Baustoffmaschinen" ("Construction Equipment and Building Material Machines") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of drilling and foundation equipment and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
