Overview

An energy audit is an important step for an organization, independent of type and size, that wishes to optimize its energy use and improve its energy efficiency. This standard supplements the general requirements of an energy audit of good quality specified in DIN EN 16247-1. It specifies the specific requirements for an energy audit for buildings (whole buildings or parts of a building) and the corresponding obligations within an audit process. Private dwellings are excluded from the scope. Maybe a building includes energy-intensive processes. In this case the energy auditor may decide if the third part of the standard series, DIN EN 16247-3, is applied. It is recognized that there are differences in the procedures of an energy audit regarding scope, purpose and thoroughness, but the aim is to harmonize common aspects to promote clarity and transparency of the market for energy audit services. This standard contains specific requirements, methods and results of an energy audit for buildings. It is applicable for all buildings and groups of buildings, excluding private dwellings. This part comprises additional energy audit requirements in buildings to be taken into account and supplements the general requirements for energy audits specified in DIN EN 16247-1. Other specific requirements for processes and transport are specified in Part 3: Processes or Part 4 Transport of the standard series to DIN EN 16247. Requirements for the competence of energy auditors are contained in DIN EN 16247-5, "Energy audits - Part 5 - Competence of energy auditors". The committee responsible for this standard is NA 172-00-09 AA "Energieeffizienz und Energiemanagement" ("Energy efficiency and energy management") at DIN.
