This document specifies a test method for measuring a quantity representative of the intrinsic characteristics of airborne sound insulation for railway noise barriers that is the sound insulation index. All noise reducing devices different from noise barriers and related devices acting on airborne sound propagation, such as devices for attenuation of ground borne vibration and on board devices are out of the scope of this document. The standardising committee responsible for this document is NA 087-00-01-11 UA "Lärmschutzwände an Schienenwegen" ("Noise barriers at tracks").
