This standard contains specifications meeting the essential requirements set out in Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC in conjunction with Directive 2009/125/EC and EU Regulation 641/2009, and which apply to machines that are either first placed on the market or commissioned within the European Economic Area (EEA). Furthermore, it describes the energy efficiency index (EEI) calculation rules for circulators integrated in products necessary to meet the requirements of EU Regulation 641/2009. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a harmonized standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (so-called presumption of conformity). The scope of this standard covers glandless circulators having a rated hydraulic output power of between 1 W and 2 500 W designed for use in heating systems or cooling distribution systems. This standard contains the German version of EN 16297-3:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 197 "Pumps" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The national interests during the preparation are represented by NA 060-11-01 AA "Kreiselpumpen" ("Rotodynamic pumps") in Technical Section "Pumpen" ("Pumps") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of glandless circulators, and of the employers' liability insurance associations participate in the preparation.
