Rail vehicle structures are exposed to various loads throughout their service life. Before a component or rail vehicle can be used, it shall be proven that it can withstand the loads it will encounter. This document defines basic terms and general procedures for strength verification of ferrous materials and aluminum in rail vehicle structures that are manufactured, operated, and maintained in accordance with standards applicable to railway applications. As Part 1 of the series of standards, it provides basic requirements for static strength and operational or fatigue strength. This document does not specify design load cases. This document does not apply to corrosive conditions or operation at elevated temperatures in the creep range. This document is applicable to all rail vehicles. Working Committee NA 087-00-04 AA "Festigkeit/Kollisionssicherheit" ("Strength/crashworthiness") at DIN is responsible for this document.
