This document only applies to refrigeration systems used and operated for the road transport of temperature sensitive goods. Requirements are specified for flammable refrigerants class A2L, A2 and A3 as defined in ISO 817 with regard to: - design (unless specified in EN 378-2), operation in all anticipated operational modes and locations, including land-based continuous idling during standstill, maintenance and servicing, risk reduction, investigation, and limitation for manufacturers of refrigeration equipment for road transport, installers, owners of light commercial vehicles (LCVs), trucks, or trailers, and operators. This document describes an Operational Mode Risk Assessment (OMRA), which uses methods such as Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP), Failure Mode and Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) or a combination of these methods. It also specifies requirements for the validation of possible safety concepts and protective devices within the OMRA process, including charge release tests, simulation, and function tests of the associated protective equipment, and test requirements for shock and vibration. A validation procedure is specified to demonstrate that risks from hazardous events are investigated and their severity and frequency are reduced in a meaningful way with the aim of achieving tolerable risk values. This document has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 413 "Insulated means of transport for temperature sensitive goods with or without cooling and/or heating device", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. The responsible German committee is NA 044-00-10 AA "Fahrzeugkühlung" ("Transport refrigeration") at DIN Standards Committee Refrigeration Technology (FNKä).
