Overview

The DIN EN 3682 standard series describes the characteristics of rectangular electrical connectors, plug and receptacle, with interchangeable inserts for aerospace use. This family of connectors is derived from MIL-C-83527 with which it is intermateable and interchangeable. It is particularly for use on rack application in zones of severe environmental conditions on board aircraft, applying EN 2282. The operating temperature is 150 °C continuous. The new edition of Part 001 specifies the general characteristics, the conditions for qualification, acceptance and quality assurance, as well as the test programs and groups for connectors intended for use in a temperature range from -65 °C to 150 °C continuous. This standard differs from the previous edition DIN EN 3682-001:2008-01 as follows: a) the Normative references have been revised; b) the document has been editorially revised, this has resulted in additional clauses and modifications of the previous numbering has been modified; c) in 4.1, the suitable crimp contacts have been supplemented by quadrax contacts and fibre optical contacts; d) statements for size 8 and size 22 contact cavities have been taken into account in 5.2; e) in Table 1, Table 10, Table 11 and Table 12, size 8 quadrax contacts have been included; f) the keys of Figure 3, Figure 7 and Figure 11 have been revised; g) in 6.7, the contact arrangements for quadrax contacts 1-Q11, 1-118Q2, 1-68Q4, 2-20Q4, 2-Q6, 2-11Q2, 2-62Q2 and 2-68Q2 have been included, the numbering of figures and tables was changed accordingly; h) the note in 7.1 has been deleted; i) quadrax contacts have been included in the tests in 7.2; j) the maximum requirement of 22,5 N has been included in test EN 2591-413; k) Table 60 "Resistance to fluids" has been revised and refers to EN 3909, Table 64 has been adapted accordingly. The EN 3682 standard series has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrical, Avionics, with the participation of German experts of the Aerospace Standards Committee. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. ASD became the associated body (ASB) of CEN by the agreement dated 1986-10-03. The responsible German Standardization Committee is Working Committee NA 131-04-03 AA "Elektrische Verbindungselemente" ("Electrical Connectors") of the Aerospace Standards Committee (NL) at DIN.
