Overview

This document applies to electrical equipment using signals in the frequency range 3 kHz to 95 kHz to transmit or receive information on low-voltage electrical systems, for electricity suppliers and distributors. It specifies essential immunity requirements and test methods for electromagnetic disturbances generated in low-voltage installations, including those tests to be performed during the type testing of MCEs. It describes the procedures and requirements for testing the immunity of the basic function of an MCE with regard to continuous and transient disturbances, both conducted and radiated, and to electrostatic discharges. Test conditions are specified for each connection under consideration. If equipment includes functions other than the transmission or reception of information on LV distribution networks or installations of network users connected to the public electricity distribution network, then this document applies only to the part of the equipment intended for the transmission or reception of information. It does not specify immunity of MCE to signals from other MCE operating in the same nominal frequency band or immunity to signals originating from power line carrier systems operating on high or medium-voltage networks. Safety considerations are not included in this document. The standard differs from DIN EN 50065-2-3 (VDE 0808-2-3):2006-05 as follows: a) adaptation of the title and general focus on mains communication equipment (MCE); b) adjustment of the scope to clarify the applicability of the standard; c) addition and updating of normative references; d) completion of definitions; e) updating of performance criteria; f) updating of test provisions; g) improvement of the test circuit and test procedure for immunity tests in normative Annex A, while taking the fact that problems have been observed when testing immunity to voltage dips and interruptions using the test circuit defined in EN 50065-2-3:2003 into account; h) addition of Annex B (informative) with optional test provisions. This standard applies to the transmission or reception of information in the frequency range from 3 kHz to 95 kHz on low-voltage electrical systems intended, for example, for use in residential, commercial, and small business environments.
