The standard specifies specific requirements for generic cabling systems, which are used in homes (single-family and multi-family homes). These requirements apply equally to premises in buildings with mixed use (dwellings, doctors' offices, law offices, etcetera) that are used for residential purposes. The document specifies the following aspects either directly or by reference to EN 50173-1: - structure and minimum configuration for generic cabling systems in homes; - interfaces at the system outlet and at the broadcast outlet; - requirements for the performance of cabling and transmission links; - requirements on and options for designs; - requirements for the performance of cabling components; - conformity requirements and verification procedures. Requirements for safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of cabling systems are not covered by this standard and are dealt with in other standards and regulations. The standard differs from DIN EN 50173-4 (VDE 0800-173-4):2018-10 as follows: a) Amendment A1 incorporated; b) translation errors in Figure 5 and in 4.8.5.1 corrected. This document enables owners or builders of residential buildings to equip their properties with a future-proof, service-neutral infrastructure for broadband communication. It enables the specialist planners concerned to support the planned network applications for information and communication technology (ICT) and broadcasting and communication technology with the desired cable media (symmetrical data cables, fiber optic cables, coaxial cables) in accordance with the relevant standards.
This document replaces DIN EN 50173-4:2018-10; VDE 0800-173-4 .
