Overview
This standard specifies two methods of test to determine the ability of the sheath markings of a finished data or telecommunication cable to withstand abrasion. Depending on the kind of marking, either the method with abrading edge or the method with wiping felt shall be used. With respect to the previous edition of this standard, the essential modifications concern the more detailed description of the test method; this concerns in particular the number of cycles, force and needle diameter. The responsible body is DKE/K 412 "Kommunikationskabel (Kabel, Leitungen, Wellenleiter, Lichtwellenleiter, Komponenten, Zubehör und Anlagentechnik für die Nachrichten- und Informationsübertragung") ("Communication cables (cables, conductors, waveguides, fibre optic cables, components, accessories and systems technology for communication and data transmission")) of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 50289-3-8:2002-05 .
