This standard specifies the criteria for copper data and telecom cables designed to have intrinsic resistance to fire and intended for use as emergency circuits for alarm, lighting and communication purposes. The test methods are based on EN 50200 "Method of test for resistance to fire of unprotected small cables for use in emergency circuits" and a method for measurement of the transmission response. The standard has been prepared under the mandates M/117, M/212 and M/443 given to CENELEC by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association and covers the essential requirements of the Construction Products Council Directive (89/106/EEC). The responsible committee is DKE/K 412 "Kommunikationskabel (Kabel, Leitungen, Wellenleiter, Lichtwellenleiter, Komponenten, Zubehör und Anlagentechnik für die Nachrichten- und Informationsübertragung)" ("Communication cables (Cables, wires, waveguides, optical fibres, components, accessories and systems engineering for telecommunication and transmission of information)") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
