Overview

This standard contains the initial, start of life dimensional, optical, mechanical and environmental performance requirements that an assembled singlemode patch cord with cylindrical ferruled connectors shall meet in order for it to be categorised as an EN standard product. The standard combines the requirements of IEC standards for fibre optic patch cables IEC 60793-2-50 and EN standards for connectors of the EN 50377 series. The manufacture and testing of fibre optic patch cables always creates uncertainty between cable manufacturers and connector manufacturers. This standard provides security regarding the definition. The responsible committee is Subcommittee 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
