DIN EN 50411-3-2:2024-06

This document contains the initial, start of life dimensional, optical, mechanical and environmental performance requirements, which single mode mechanical splice needs to meet in order for it to be categorized as a European standard product. This European product standard describes the product, interoperability, expected operational performance, operating environment, reliability, and quality assurance. The standard describes the test setup, pre-treatment, monitoring, recovery time, final measurement, and measurement uncertainties, as well as details of the test report. It also specifies the requirements for optical and mechanical performance. Although, in this document, the product is qualified for EN IEC 60793 2 50 type B-652.D single mode fibres, it is also suitable for mechanical splicing of other single mode fibres with 125 µm diameter glass cladding. The standard differs from DIN EN 50411-3-2:2012-01 as follows: a) terms have been added; b) the tests and test severance factors according to EN 61753-1:2007, category U, have been replaced by the tests and test severance factors according to EN IEC 61753-1:2018, category OP; c) the references have been updated. The standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users, provides test laboratories and manufacturers with defined test specifications, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
