A multimode mechanical fibre splice is a passive optical interconnection component which provides optical and mechanical continuity between two optical fibres or optical cables. This standard contains the initial, start of life dimensional, optical, mechanical and environmental performance requirements which a multimode mechanical splice shall meet and a test programme for optical performance. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.2 "Komponenten für Kommunikationskabelanlagen" ("Fibre optic systems and active devices") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
