DIN EN 50436-7:2025-06

This document defines the content and the layout of an installation document providing necessary and useful information about the aftermarket installation of an alcohol interlock into a vehicle. It details the type of the vehicle, connection schematics, accessibility instructions and recommendations to avoid safety risks. The content and layout ensure that the information document is easy to use by installers in different countries and can be available in paper or electronic format. This document does not apply to the installation process, information related to education and training for installers, general performance requirements for alcohol interlocks (see DIN EN 50436-1 (VDE 0406-1):2023) and installation of the alcohol interlock during the production of the vehicle. The standard differs from DIN EN 50436-7 (VDE 0406-7):2017-07 as follows: a) Clause 2, Normative references, ISO 16750-2:2012 has been added; b) Subclause 6.7, Installation instructions, details with regard to the data bus connection have been updated; c) Subclause 6.9, Installation position of alcohol interlock handheld unit and control unit: the entire subclause has been updated in order to define responsibility for the installation of retrofitted devices; d) Table C.1, Information on the connection diagram: the cell for entry 1 in the "Function" column has been updated in order to distinguish between active operation and low-power standby mode; e) footnote "a" and footnote "c" of Table C.1 have been updated; f) Bibliography: entry 1 has been replaced with information regarding the published standard. This document applies to the aftermarket installation of an alcohol interlock in accordance with DIN EN 50436-1 (VDE 0406-1) in a vehicle. This document is primarily intended for vehicle manufacturers, alcohol interlock manufacturers, and installers.
