This part of the standard IEC 60034 defines terms applicable to the excitation systems of synchronous rotating electrical machines. The following modifications have been made with respect to the 1997 version: a) 2.2.1 addition of a definition for digital excitation systems; b) 2.1.2 addition of a definition for reversible excitation systems; c) 2.3 edited definition of excitation controls; d) 2.4 addition of a definition for excitation control systems; addition of a block diagram of excitation control systems; e) 2.17 addition of a definition for excitation system negative ceiling voltage Un; f) 2.19 edited definition of excitation system on-load ceiling voltage UpL; g) 2.20 addition of a definition for excitation system on-load negative ceiling voltage UnL; h) 2.22 addition of a definition for excitation system voltage response time; i) 2.23 addition of a definition for high initial response excitation systems; j) 3.1 edited definition of rotating exciters; k) 3.1.2 edited definition of AC exciters; l) 3.2.3 addition of a definition for auxiliary winding source static exciters; m) 3.3 addition of a definition for pilot exciters; n) 4.1 to 4.7 edited definitions of control functions. The responsible Committee is K 311 "Drehende elektrische Maschinen" ("Rotating electrical machines") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
