This standard applies to the safety of electric clocks with a rated voltage not more than 250 V. This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, thermal, fire and radiation of appliances when operated as in normal use taking into account the manufacturer's instructions. It also covers abnormal situations that can be expected in practice and takes into account the way in which electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances. This document does not apply to: - battery-powered clocks; - devices intended exclusively for industrial use; - devices intended for use in areas where special conditions prevail, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapour, or gas); - clocks with other functions, whether or not they display the time, such as master clocks and timers for stoves, washing machines, and similar appliances; - time clocks, and - clocks that contain only electronic circuits (see IEC 60065).
