Overview
This European Standard deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial grillers and toasters not intended for household use. The appliances are for commercial use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral, and 480 V for other appliances. Rotary or continuous grillers and toasters and similar appliances intended for grilling by radiant heat such as rotisseries, salamanders, etcetera, are also within the scope of this standard. These appliances are used in restaurants, canteens, hospitals and commercial enterprises such as bakeries and butcheries. By Amendment A11:2012 incorporated into the European Standard EN 60335-2-48:2003+A1:2008, commercial appliances or machines with motor-operated, movable parts have been adapted to the essential requirements of EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. The responsible committee is UK 511.8 "Großküchengeräte" ("Equipment for commercial kitchens") at the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
