Overview

This part of IEC 60384 applies to fixed tantalum electrolytic surface mount capacitors with solid (MnO2) electrolyte primarily intended for d.c. applications for use in electronic equipment. These capacitors are primarily intended for use in electronic equipment to be mounted directly on substrates for hybrid circuits or to printed boards. Two types are covered, the type of capacitors that are protected by external materials and the type of capacitors that are not protected by external materials. This standard specifies the preferred ratings and characteristics for the type of capacitors described, selects the appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests and measurement methods from IEC 60384-1:2008 and specifies general requirements for performance. In detail specifications that refer to this sectional specification the severity levels of the tests and the requirements shall be at least those specified in this sectional specification; weaker ones are not permitted. For the application of this document, the terms according to IEC 60384-1:2008 and the term capacitance of the electrolytic capacitor apply. Preferred characteristics are the preferred climatic categories; the capacitors according to this specification are divided into climatic categories according to the general rules of IEC 60068-1. Preferred rating values are the rated capacitance, the limiting deviation of the rated capacitance, the rated voltage, the category voltage, the peak voltage and the rated temperature. The primary fabrication stage is explained in the clause on quality assessment procedures; for capacitors with a solid electrolyte, the primary fabrication stage is the formation of the anode body. Structurally similar components are capacitors that are manufactured using the same manufacturing processes and materials, even if their housing sizes and values are different. The procedures for the qualifications approval tests are specified in IEC 60384-1. The method with a fixed sample size is described in IEC 60384-1. The sample shall represent the range of capacitors for which qualifications approval is requested. The sample may correspond to the complete range specified in the detail specification or to a partial range. The listed tests are required for the approval of capacitors according to a detail specification. The tests of each group shall be carried out in the specified order. The entire sample shall first be subjected to the tests of group 0 and then divided into the other groups. The responsible committee is DKE/K 611 "Kondensatoren" ("Condensers") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
