Overview

This standard applies to lead-screw actuated and rotary preset potentiometers, wirewound and non-wirewound for use in electronic equipment. These potentiometers are primarily intended for use in circuits for trimming purposes which require infrequent adjustments. The purpose of this standard is to prescribe the preferred ratings and characteristics and select from IEC 60393-1 the appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests and measuring methods as well as the general performance requirements for this type of potentiometer. This standard gives the minimum performance requirements and test severities. Detail specifications that refer to this sectional specification shall not specify requirements that are less stringent than those specified in the generic or sectional specification or in the form for the detail specification. If they contain more stringent requirements, these shall be listed in a clause of the detail specification and marked in the test plans, for example by an asterisk. The Preferred rated values, characteristics, and test severity clause establishes preferred characteristic values, preferred rated values, and preferred test severity levels. The Quality assessment procedures clause provides definitions and describes qualification approval, quality conformance testing, and delayed delivery. The responsible committee is DKE/GK 613 "Widerstände" ("Resistors") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
