Due to the manufacturing process and the physical properties of the products, ferrite cores usually exhibit some degree of damage, such as chipping, edge chipping, cracking, burrs, and flaking. The allowable extent of such damage depends on the type, location, and size of the defect, as well as the function of the core. This standard gives guidelines on allowable limits of visible surface irregularities applicable to ETD-, EER-, EC-, and E-cores. The essential difference compared to the previous edition concerns the extension to EC cores and the consideration of crystallites and pores. The responsible committee is DKE/K 625 "Magnetische Bauelemente und deren Komponenten" ("Magnetic components and their parts") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
