This part of IEC 60794 applies to optical fibre cables for use with communication equipment and devices employing similar techniques and to cables having a combination of both optical fibres and electrical conductors. The object of this standard is to establish uniform generic requirements for the geometrical, transmission, material, mechanical, ageing (environmental exposure), climatic and electrical properties of optical fibre cables and cable elements, where appropriate. The standard is intended for manufacturers, users and test institutes. The standard differs from DIN EN 60794-1-1 (VDE 0888-100-1):2012-06 as follows in order to make this standard the basis and reference for all others in the IEC 60794-94-x series: a) expansion of definitions, graphic symbols, terminology, and content of abbreviations; b) inclusion of updated and expanded optical fibers, attenuation, and bandwidth sections. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.6 "Lichtwellenleiter und Lichtwellenkabel" ("Optical fibres and fibre cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 60794-1-1:2012-06; VDE 0888-100-1:2012-06 .
