Overview

This part of IEC 60947 specifies industrial requirements and applications for control units, which perform the switching functions in response to a thermal detector incorporated in rotating electrical machines according to IEC 60034-11. It also specifies requirements for systems that are comprised of a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermal detector having particular characteristics, and its associated control unit. This standard includes several modifications to DIN EN 60947-8 (VDE 0660-302):2007-07. The modifications concern the hot wire ignition test in the context of the material requirements (8.1.2), the EMC requirements (8.3.2.2 and Table 1) and the inclusion of special tests in Annex B (moist heat, salt spray, vibration and shock). The responsible committee is DKE/K 431 "Niederspannungsschaltgeräte und -kombinationen" ("Low-voltage switchgear and combinations") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
