Part 14 of this International Standard about the global maritime distress and safety system defines the operational, performance and test requirements for AIS Search and Rescue Transmitters which ships can be equipped with for maritime search and rescue. The Search and Rescue Transmitter (SART) of the automatic identification system (AIS) transmits messages that indicate the position, status and safety information of ships in distress.
