DIN EN 61158-1:2015-02

A fieldbus is a digital serial data bus for communication between industrial automation technology such as measuring devices, final controlling elements and programmable logic controllers. The standards of the DIN EN 61158 series define a number of fieldbus protocol types. Each protocol type allows communication with a larger number of such devices on a common medium. The devices only communicate directly with other devices in which the same protocol type is implemented. DIN EN 61158-1 presents the overview and instructions of the series of standards in which they explain the structure and content of the DIN EN 61158 series as well as parts of it to be used in relation to the EN 61784 series. The responsible committee is DKE/K 956 "Feldbus" ("Fieldbus") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
