This part of DIN EN 61202 is a generic specification and is directed at manufacturers and customers of fibre optic isolators. Thereby it promotes compatibility between the products for locating the described components. The standard specifies terms and definitions, specifies classification requirements and gives suggestions for marking and packaging. Detail specifications can be prepared on the basis of this standard. Amongst others, the standard refers to the DIN EN 61754 (Optical interface) and the DIN EN 61300 (Basic test and measurement procedures) standard series. This part of IEC 61202 applies to isolators used in the field of fiber optics that have all of the following general properties: - they are non-reciprocal optical components in which all connections are either optical fiber or optical fiber connectors; - they are passive components that do not contain any optoelectronic or other converter elements; - they have two optical connections for the directional transmission of optical power. The responsible committee is Subcommittee UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 61202-1:2010-05; VDE 0885-550:2010-05 .
