This part of IEC 61280 specifies a test procedure for digital fibre optic communication and data systems. The purpose of this test is the measurement of the minimum required and maximum allowable optic performance of the optical gateway of a fibre optic system, in order to ensure its operation within specified limits. A further purpose is the verification that the assured error performance during the smallest and largest optical performance specified by the manufacturer of the connection device is maintained. This test standard provides manufacturers and test laboratories with security regarding the specification of the test and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The responsible Committee is K 412.2 "Komponenten für Kommunikationskabelanlagen" ("Components for communication cable installations") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Informational Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 61280-2-1:1999-12 .
