Overview
This standard specifies the terms for all commercially available optical amplifiers (OAs) and optically amplified assemblies using optically pumped fibres (OFAs based either on rare-earth doped fibres or on the Raman effect), semiconductors (SOAs), and waveguides (POWAs). Moreover, it specifies uniform requirements and parameters for the transmission, operation, reliability and environmental conditions for optical amplifiers. In the sectional and detail specifications a subset of these parameters will be specified according to the type and application of the particular optical amplifier device or assembly. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic connectors & passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
