This part of IEC 61300 describes the test to determine the influence of static tensile load on a strain-relieved fibre optic device. During the process it simulates the load usually occurring during operation caused by a cable length. The components shall resist during optical transmission of a lateral load without deterioration of the optical performance. In addition to the strain relieve, every element controlling the bend radius of the fibre can be considered as strain relief. The standard provides manufacturers and test laboratories with security regarding the specification of the test and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
