This part of IEC 61753 contains minimum initial test and measurement requirements and severities which a single-mode connector, either part of a pigtail, or part of a cord, must satisfy in order to be categorized as meeting the IEC standard category U (uncontrolled environment). The standard contains the minimum requirements, details and severities for 17 different tests. Thus the standard offers investment reliability for manufacturers and users and provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined information for testing. The standard is directed at manufacturers, users and testing institutes. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
