This part of IEC 61754 defines the standard interface dimensions for the type URM family of connectors. The basic connector of the URM type connector family is a duplex connector set with a connector/coupling/connector configuration characterized by a ferrule end diameter of 1,25 mm. It has two ferrules that are spring-loaded in the direction of the optical axis. The connector has a single outer keying that can be used to align and limit the relative position between the connector and the coupling with which it mates. The mechanism for optical alignment of the connector is a flexible coupling sleeve. The drawings and dimensions shown represent minimum requirements that are functionally significant during the plugging and unplugging process of the connector with the associated coupling/socket component. The standard thus offers investment security for manufacturers and users and provides test laboratories and manufacturers with defined information for testing. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
