This Part 1 of the European Standard EN 61800-9 describes a methodology for determining the Energy Efficiency Index of an application based on the concept of the Semi-Analytical Model (SAM). This methodology is referred to as the extended product approach (EPA). It enables developers of standards for driven equipment to link these with the relative power losses of the integrated motor system in order to calculate the system energy efficiency for the entire application. The methodology is based on defined calculation models for speed/load profiles, load profiles and relative power losses for suitable operating points in relation to a torque as a function of speed. This standard is largely based on European Standard EN 50598-1 and is intended to replace it. The responsible committee is DKE/K 226 "Ausrüstung von Starkstromgeräten und -anlagen mit elektronischen Betriebsmitteln" ("High voltage current equipment and systems with electronic equipment") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 50598-1:2015-05; VDE 0160-201:2015-05 .
