This standard specifies the operational and performance requirements, test methods and required test results for class A shipborne equipment of the automatic identification system AIS onboard ships. It takes into account results of the special agencies of the United nations as well as resolutions of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the radio sector recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R). This Part 2 of IEC 61993 also specifies the minimum requirements both for the means to input and display data and for the interfaces to other equipment suitable to be used as means of input and display data. The responsible committee is K 738 "Elektronische Navigationsinstrumente" ("Electronic navigation instruments") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
