Overview

This third edition of the standard applies to the operation of gas-tight accumulators and batteries with alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes (except button cells) used in portable devices (for example, cell phones, laptops). It contains requirements and tests for safe operation. Compared to previous editions, the standard has been split into two parts. This Part 2 deals exclusively with batteries with a lithium-based electrochemical system. Specifications for nickel-based systems are included in Part 1. The responsible committee is DKE/K 371 "Akkumulatoren" ("Accumulators") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
