Overview
Part 2 of the International Standard IEC 62287 specifies the operational and performance requirements, methods of testing and required test results for Class B shipborne AIS equipment using SOTDMA techniques as described in Recommendation ITU-R M.1371. One main difference between Class B "CS" (IEC 62287-1) and Class B "SO" units is that the Class B "SO" covers all 25 kHz channels listed in Recommendation ITU-R M.1084-5. The standard is applicable for AIS equipment used on craft that are not covered by a mandatory carriage requirement of AIS under SOLAS Chapter V. The responsible committee is DKE/K 738 "Elektronische Navigationsinstrumente" ("Electronic navigation equipment") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
