The DIN EN 62439 series of standards defines basic principles for high-availability networks in industrial automation. In an error-free state, these protocols provide for ISO/IEC 8802-3 (IEEE 802.3)-compliant communication as well as mechanisms for real-time communication. They recover within specified times in the event of failure of an insertion or removal of a component. This standard specifies the protocol for ring-based redundancy. Due to the corrigendum (IEC Corrigendum May 2015 to IEC 62439-7:2011), the existing text in Clause 10 has been partially replaced. The responsible committee is DKE/K 956 "Feldbus" ("Fieldbus") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
