Overview

This standard specifies the requirements, content and format of data exchange for material declarations within the supply chain. Even though this International Standard has been developed for the electrotechnical industry, the requirements and format of the data exchange remains applicable for other sectors. The specifications for material declaration given in this standard can serve for verification of the fulfilment of statutory obligations. In addition, the information regarding material composition of products collected in accordance with this standard supports the environmentally conscious design process over all phases of the product life cycle and enables manufacturers to answer market inquiries regarding the material composition in products when necessary. The responsible committee is DKE/K 135 "Erfassung von Stoffen in Produkten der Elektrotechnik" ("Determination of substances in products of the electrotechnical industry") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
