This part of IEC 62496 covers general information on the subject of an optical circuit board (OCB) interfaces. It includes normative references, terms and definitions and rules for creating and interpreting the standard drawings. The standard provides manufacturers and test laboratories with security regarding the specification of the test and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The responsible committee is K 412 "Kommunikationskabel (Kabel, Leitungen, Wellenleiter, Lichtwellenleiter, Komponenten, Zubehör und Anlagentechnik für die Nachrichten- und Informationsübertragung)" ("Communication cables (Cables, wires, waveguides, fibre optics, components, equipment and installation technology for the transmission of news and information)") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
