This part of IEC 62507 specifies basic requirements for systems for the identification of objects (such as products, "items", documents, etcetera, excluding human individuals). The standard focuses on assigning identifiers to an object for referencing purposes. The responsible committee is K 113 "Produktdatenmodelle, Informationsstrukturen, Dokumentation und graphische Symbole" ("Product data models, information structures, documentation and graphical symbols") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
