Overview

The DIN EN 62561 standard series deals with the requirements and tests for lightning protection system components used for installation in lightning protection systems and consists of the following parts under the general title "Lightning protection system components (LPSC)": DIN EN 62561-1 Part 1: Requirements for connection components DIN EN 62561-2 Part 2: Requirements for conductors and earth electrodes DIN EN 62561-3 Part 3: Requirements for isolating spark gaps DIN EN 62561-4 Part 4: Requirements for conductor fasteners DIN EN 62561-5 Part 5: Requirements for earth electrode inspection housings and earth electrode seals DIN EN 62561-6 Part 6: Requirements for lightning strike counters DIN EN 62561-7 Part 7: Requirements for earthing enhancing compounds Part 6 specifies the requirements and tests for devices intended to count the number of lightning strike pulses flowing in a conductor. This conductor may be part of a lightning protection system (LPS) or connected to a surge protection device installation (or other conductors which are not intended to conduct a significant portion of lightning currents). Lightning strike counters may also be suitable for use in hazardous atmospheres. Regard should then be taken of the extra requirements necessary for the components to be installed in such conditions. The responsible committee is K 251 "Blitzschutzanlagen und Blitzschutzbauteile" ("Lightning protection installations and lightening protection components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
