Overview
This standard specifies a generic specification for electro-optical measurements for backlight units (BLU) incorporating light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as used for backlighting liquid crystal displays. It specifies general methods for quality assessment and provides general rules for electro-optical measurement methods for LCD backlight units incorporating LEDs. Other backlights, for instance cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs), external electrode fluorescent lamps (EEFLs), hot cathode fluorescent lamps (HCFLs), and carbon nano tube (CNT), etcetera, are excluded from this standard. The responsible committee is DKE/K 742 "Audio-, Video- und Multimediasysteme, -geräte und -komponenten" ("Audio, video and multimedia systems, equipment and components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
