This European Standard specifies all hazards arising from the use of tools for woodworking machines, and describes the methods for the elimination or reduction of these hazards by tool design and by the provision of information. This document deals with milling tools (bore mounted, shank mounted), integrated tools and circular saw blades. This document does not cover the hazards related to the strength of shank of shank mounted milling tools. Compared to the previous edition, safety requirements and protective measures as well as requirements for tool sets in the assembled state and balance quality requirements have been supplemented. This document does not apply to boring bits, eccentric single router cutters, cutters with cutting circle less than 16 mm and to tools used in rotary knife lathes and copying lathes where the hazard of ejection and contact with the tool is always prevented by a system of fixed guards and/or movable guards interlocked with guard-locking and/or self-closing guards. This document has been prepared by WG 8 "Woodworking tools - Safety" (secretariat: UNI, Italy) of CEN/TC 142 "Safety of woodworking tools". The responsible German working committee is NA 121-01-18 AA (previous designation FWS-B 4.4) "Sicherheit von Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen" ("Safety of woodworking tools") at FWS.
This document replaces DIN EN 847-1:2007-11 .
